About

My name is Arlynn and I’m a housewife and crafter from the South.  I moved here when I married my soulmate oh so many years ago.  My hubby and I have two beautiful daughters who are now out on their own and thriving in this big world of ours. I’ve done many things in my life, but, most of them revolved around raising our girls and involving myself as a volunteer in their schools.  Also, we have 2 Newfoundland dogs named Sophie and Samson and a Golden Retriever named Gracie all three of which I absolutely adore.

A bit about my background, I come from a very loving, God fearing family whose traditions run deep and love runs strong; they are all (aunts, uncles, cousins–I’m an only child) very special to me!  Unfortunately, we are all scattered and live in different States, but when we are together we make the most of every moment (we just had a family reunion here at our home last May–Here is a link to my post telling you about our Family Reunion Decor and Craft Projects).  Both of my parents were educators, and they raised me up to be a loving and honest woman. My family shaped and molded me into the woman I am today. Sadly, we lost my precious Mom a couple of years ago. My Dad is still going strong, he plays golf daily, travels extensively, and is as healthy as can be.

All of that said, I’ve been crafting for decades…literally…haha. I decided to start this blog because when I would post my newest crafting or diy project on my Facebook page, it seemed like folks were interested in what I was doing. A few friends and one of my daughters have encouraged me to try and start a blog because they feel that I have a lot to offer; I hope that they are right and that there is someone who might take one of my ideas and utilize it in their home.  I have no formal education in interior design, but I love to create warm cozy spaces and I love to decorate my home in a welcoming manner. I make wreaths and centerpieces among other things and I utilize my very symmetrical nature to create spaces within my home that are pleasing to the eye. I love to craft and create! All of that said, I am completely new to blogging, so please be patient with me as I am learning as I go.

My hubby and I moved into our retirement home a couple of years ago and I’ve been diligently working on decorating our space. I change the decor as the Seasons change. Sit down, relax, and do a little crafting with me! 🙂

Just read your blog- love it too! I too am a late bloomer and love your work ! Besides your beautiful huge dogs 🙂 ! Keep on keeping on ! Have just found out about making mesh wreaths and going to make my first one after reading your blog. Just a little nervous. Have always wanted to try but didn’t know how and another co- worker and crafty person showed me hers so I think I can do it to. Wish me luck. Now to head to the craft store and take out a small house loan, I want to do so many projects – so little time! 🙂

  3. I just found your page thru a link on the Princess Alaska cruise forum about your packing list. Thank you! I love the outfits you put together. I hope to spend more time reading thru all of your page when I have the chance so maybe this will be answered – but what are your favorite stores? I like so many of the items you showed. We are cruising the Inside Passage this May. Look forward to following you.

    1. Hi Patty! OH I’m so glad that you found me on the Alaska Cruise Facebook forum (I’m actually one of the Admins for that group…haha). 🙂 Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for all of your sweet words! 🙂 Regarding which stores I frequent, Dress Barn is my favorite (I’m a plus sized girl, and their clothes fit me nicely), I also go to Avenue sometimes, as well as Lane Bryant—but LB is so expensive, unless I have a coupon, I will not go through the door. 🙂 I like Macy’s sometimes too, they have some lovely plus clothes and they have great sales. 🙂 I hope this helps girl…don’t ever hesitate to ask me any question that might come to mind—and, you are gonna love the Inside Passage, I can pretty much guarantee you that. 🙂 ❤

    Hi Arlynn,
What a lucky day for me when I found your YouTube videos that ultimately landed me here. Your home is stunningly decorated! I can’t wait to give some of your decorating ideas a try, i.e. The lantern centerpieces and the wreathed! I, too, love pip berry garlands and country decor. Your dogs are adorable…in a big dog way! Your idea for your lighting remotes, I have borrowed, and placed my Amazon order! I can’t wait to view your next video, watch your lovely home turn into a spring dream, and view your terrific crafting and decorating ideas. I am a retired (4 years) elementary teacher from PA where we have the best seasonal changes, as you. Today was our first significant snowfall, and more is due tonight. Have a wonderful day! Until next time….Cindi

Thank you so much for taking the time out to write to me and to let me know that you’ve found me. You’ve touched on all things that I love to share…my doggies, decor, and little tidbits of information, i.e. the lighting remote. 😉 BTW, our daughter is an elementary teacher, and both of my parents were teachers…I chose not to teach in a classroom, but, I think I am doing a bit of teaching here and on YouTube. 😉 I grew up in Maryland, just South of you there in PA. 🙂 I’m sure you saw my little video on YouTube of our snowfall from this morning, it was so pretty!! ANYway, thank you so much again to leaving me such a lovely comment, I really appreciate every single word. 🙂 ❤

I’m so glad that you came across me on YouTube, I just started that channel last Fall and I’m really enjoying it, I started my blog a year before that…And I was 54 years old when I started writing and 55 when I started YouTube, so I get what you are saying when you say that you can still learn new things at any age…I say GO US!!! ❤ I'm so glad that you find my tutorials easy to follow, that is something that I thrive for truly–When learning said something's' new, it is nice to have a good template (so to speak) to work from.

You are from the "deep" South…hahaha…I LOVE Georgia, such a gorgeous State! I'm so very sorry to hear about your baby girl being stillborn, that is so sad. 😥 Having Educators in the family…sounds very familiar. 🙂 I think I've mentioned somewhere that my sweet mom was a Science teacher as well. 🙂 You sound like a lovely lady with a lovely family (one of these days I hope to have grand babies like you), and feel free to "ramble", I love meeting new people and I'm so glad that I've made you feel like you've known me forever…that is a good thing. 🙂 ❤

    Hi Arlynn,

I stumbled upon your you tube videos by mistake the other day, boy am I glad I did!!! I am a 58 year old stay at home Mom of two, Mom-Mom of four incredible grandkids!! I work part time for my husbands company at home, and we just completed a dream project we have wanted to do for the last 30 years, a full size barn with farm animals! I have always loved all animals, especially my dogs. I love your dogs!! They are so adorable. Nothing like a dog for your “best friend!” Anyway, we went out and got three miniature Pygmy goats, a miniature horse and a miniature donkey and her one year old baby!! What fun they are!! We have a regular little farm now. A dream come true after living here in Pennsylvania at our home we built for 34 years!! Anyway, just wanted to tell you how talented you are in your decorating and narrating on camera. Don’t think I could ever do that!! My home is mainly country with a lot of antiques and auction finds thrown in. I love anything crafted home made, just wish I had a bigger house!! Keep up the good work. I think you have a real knack for narrating and decorating!! You’re a natural!! God bless you and your family. Leslie Derrington.

Hi Arlynn, I have been watching all your 2017 fall videos and I love them. I do have a few questions if you don’t mind sharing. Where did you get the dark leaves table cloth in your bkft room, I love the darker colors and it looks just beautiful in your room, also your soft color placemats in your formal dining room with the soft greens in them. I love your sense of style and you do inspire many so keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Annie! Thank you so very much for all of your sweet words! Regarding where I got that tablecloth that I have on my kitchen table… I got that years and years ago at a store that we used to have around here called Linens and Things. I have searched and searched and searched online for that tablecloth because it barely fits on the table and I would like a larger one, unfortunately, I have yet to find it. 😦 as far as the lighter green pumpkin placemats go I did get those this year at our local Home Goods store. 😀

    Hey Arlynn;
I totally enjoy your video’s, I was watching your new one tonight and you mentioned that you ramble, don’t worry about that, I ramble too. I love it. I am also a housewife who loves to craft, but don’t get to do as much as I would like. Your house is beautiful and you do a wonderful job decorating it and giving us wonderful ideas. My prayers are with Sophie and her vet visit, I have a Shih Tzu, Chloe, and with her getting older I totally understand your crying when leaving them and if one gets sick, it breaks your heart, because all you want to do it make it better. There are times I don’t want to leave Chloe just to go to the grocery store. Again, thank you for your wonderful videos, look forward to all the others, I know are coming. Debbie

  12. Hello Arlynn,
I am a designer who loves to decorate just like you do. My husband and I have created a comfortable, lovely home filled with much of my designs and art. I have recently opened an Etsy shop and Facebook business page for my designs called Katiedid Wreaths. I want to do a YouTube channel and start video taping me producing my arrangements. Now the problem is I know nothing about producing a professional looking video. I have been watching your videos and I think you have some of the best I have seen. I don’t know if you edit them or have someone doing them for you but I was sort of hoping you would share that information and help me achieve the Arlynn look. Love the way you cut away some of the video in order to shorten the length and add text over the pictures. Can you help me?

I gave a twist to the funky bows that you make. I used nine different ribbons, cut at 20 inches. The bow is super cute! Thanks for the ideas. You are doing an awesome job with your Country decor. Dear Ms. Arlynn,
I hope this little note catches you happy, healthy, and well! I just wanted to write and let you know that your channel has really meant a lot to my mom and me. Crafting is something she and I have long shared, but, since moving multiple states away from my home for school and then work, we haven’t done together for a while. I always thought I’d return home, but I ended up falling in love and making a tough decision to stay permanently where I am. It hasn’t been easy to live this far away from my family, and it is especially hard on my mom. But then something really special happened. I set out to make a burlap wreath (for the first time) this fall. I stumbled upon your channel while searching for easy-to-follow instructions on how to go about this task. I knew my mom would just adore your decorating ideas, so I sent her the link to your channel. Now, she and I bond over watching your videos and becoming inspired to develop our own craft ideas and home decor themes. She doesn’t seem so far away now, and we now look forward to seeing all the new things you come up with! You’ve given us so much, Ms. Arlynn! Thank you!

Before I sign off, I do wonder if you have any recommendations for creating an indoor urn. I have a larger Italian stone planter the has claimed the lives of no less than three real indoor palms. I’ve finally resigned myself to the fact that I’m better with artificial plants and flowers than living ones. I put together some branches/twigs and logs with a few berry accents, but it looks blah and, for some reason, droops and needs to be rearranged at least once a week. It needs height and some bulk for the size of the space it needs to fill. You may have a tutorial on something like this that I just missed, but any advice for the expert is greatly appreciated! You are such a light! Thank you!

    Hi Arlynn,

I found you quite by accident just by surfing the internet last fall. Your pieces are all so lovely. I have watched all your videos that I could find and have saved them for use this fall. Like you I love ribbon. I wish I had the access to the ribbon as you do as only some of the dealers in the US will ship to Canada. However, would you believe it is still cheaper to buy from the US? I have a question for you. Where do you buy your pip garlands and how long should it be for lantern swags? I am getting set to decorate my lanterns this fall and Christmas with the necessary help of your videos. I really enjoy your videos as you present them in such a friendly and complete way. You make me feel so comfortable in watching them. You know, by the end of a video you become my friend. I know that might sound strange but its how I feel. I hope I can find some pip garlands with your help. I’ll look forward to your reply. Take care Arlynn and thank you for all the pleasant videos.

    1. Hi Norma… Thank you so very much for all of your lovely, lovely words! I so appreciate every single one of them! I buy most of my PIP berry garland from the thepipberrybarn.com. Regarding the link that I use it all depends on the height of the lantern I honest to goodness do not measure I just eyeball it… I know that is absolutely no help to you… But that is honestly how I do it. I guess a good way to gauge the length is that you don’t want it to touch the table. I hope that was a help! Again thank you so so much for all of your sweet words! ❤️

I adore your dogs. I’ve had two golden retrievers back to back, so when I saw your Gracie on video, I must admit I did get a lump in my throat. Our Abby had a long and happy life as she died at 14, so we feel lucky to have had her as long as we did. We now have a much smaller dog mix between Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon who is now 5. Her name is Gracie…just like your Golden. We love her to pieces and its a plus that she does not shed! Something new to us.
I wanted to tell you that I will be following you from now on. I also struggle with weight….yuck but keep plugging away.

Hello I watched your video this morning and you spoke of the Haul you got at Joanns, including the darling black bird cage. I ran to Joanns and naturally they did not have it even tho I took a picture of you along. haha The lady said if I had the SKU number that she would be able to trace it and see if and when it’s coming into my local store. So could you please take a few minutes from you busy day and see if you can find the Sku numbers. I Live in the pacific NorthWest and seam to always have trouble finding things that I see on UTube. You are such a sweet heart and I really enjoy watching you. I could gab like this all day but I’ll let you go, so that you can do all your busy things. Thank you for this if you can do it. I’m not very good on the computer and only have a land line phone. Deaf.

I love watching your videos on YouTube. My favorite thing that I made after watching you is the planter bike with the bunnies in it. I absolutely love it. Yesterday I watched the video on decorating your front porch so now I want to mine.

    Hi Arlynn
Just finished watching your u tube video on your weight loss journey. Wow, Arlynn you have done so well congratulations on your success. I struggle with weight as well. You are so right when you say you have to find what works for you. That is key and the other component is how you talk to yourself and your mind set. I know this one first hand LOL I also agree with you that if you take it off too quickly it will come back very quickly. I’m certain you are on the right track.
One thing I have working for me is my daily walks. It clears my head and my little furry baby Gracie loves that I take her along. Now, if I can only get my head wrapped around what I will do to successfully lose weight…..I like the fact you have a little treat everyday which makes perfect sense to me.
The worst advice I’ve ever received was a lady I met at a social function who told me the best way to lose weight is to throw away your scale! Honestly, what a dumb idea. Lets just say I wish I could have a chat with her today :-0 What was I thinking listening to someone I did not even know. The scale was keeping me at least in a not bad range. I’m not that naive girl anymore thank the good Lord!
I know a lot of people don’t agree, but weighing myself regularly worked for me.
Anyway Arlynn keep up the good work. Have a wonderful summer. Be well

  36. Arlynn,

I believe that God chooses the people you need in your life at just the right time. I was starting to believe that everyone was only looking out for themselves & that I was the only person that believed that you get what you give in life. My faith in humanity was starting to diminish & it was a bad feeling. It just felt like the people I was meeting would take advantage of my giving nature & then disappear or turn into people that weren’t deserving of my friendship (everyone except my wonderful husband). I’ve already told you about the woman that got the deal of a lifetime buying my 10 x 15 storage unit full of wreath supplies only to turn around & tell me that there was no benefit to buying my beautiful ribbon. You found me at the perfect time. You have such a sweet, honest & true nature about you & your positive outlook on life is addicting. Thank you for giving me renewed faith in good people & good things to come to those that deserve it. You’re an AWESOME lady & I feel blessed to have met you.

    I Luv Ya Sweet Lady,

    Bobbi

I made my own pattern for them . I just love making them . I’ve made them with the Minky fabric , but found some old worn chenille bedspreads , have made them and they are just so Pretty . Would love to send you one. Maybe you can stick him somewhere at Christmas time. Where could I send it ? I’ve been having so much fun with the Funky Bows I’ve leaned to make from watching you . Hi Arlynn
I haven’t been around for quite a long time and decided to get on your u tube last night to catch up. Lots going on in your life! Congrats on your first grand child. Such a wonderful gift.
With this covid thing going on I am also struggling in so many ways. I live in Canada where our numbers are very low but both my grown children are in other provinces. In fact our daughter SIL and my only 2 grand children live in a province where the numbers are very high. I haven’t seen them since last fall. We had planned a trip this spring needless to say that fell through. I have no intention of going on a plane at this time. The drive is about 18 hours so who knows when we’ll see them again. I’m so thankful to be able to spend time with them on facetime. I pray there will be an end to this disaster soon. I find it so very difficult to see people not taking this situation seriously….boggles the mind. I don’t go out much and if I do I always where my mask.
Williamsburg has been on my bucket list for a long time. Thanks for sharing your outing there. I know I would be able to spend many hours in “The Christmas Mouse” store! My kind of store. I would definitely be able to find my happy there 🙂
Be well Arlynn – Take care
