A “Fun” & Whimsical Deco Mesh Wreath

I woke up one day and had a bright idea! That happens to me a lot…haha…I have my best ideas first thing in the morning—I have no idea why that is, probably because my mind is forever moving and trying to come up with the next craft to create or room to decorate during the day, so when I sleep, ideas finally have a chance to come to the surface.  Anyway, that morning’s bright idea was that I wanted to create a wreath for our daughter Christin’s Kindergarten classroom. I knew how she had her room decorated, it was done up in owls and soft greens & blues…It looks so sweet! So I decided that a deco mesh wreath would be the perfect thing to pair with her room’s decor. 🙂  And when I found this Owl Trio in Hobby Lobby one day, I just couldn’t resist, I had to build a wreath around them!

IMG_4930.jpg

I have made a video tutorial for my YouTube crafting channel, and I’ll put a link for that below, but first, I’ll give you a list of the supplies that I used to create this ‘fun’ and whimsical wreath (the first three letters of Christin’s last name are F-U-N, and her students call her Miss Fun, so I had to incorporate those letters into this wreath. 🙂

Okie dokie, here goes:

IMG_4915.jpg

  • 1- 16″ Metal Work Wreath with the chenille ties already attached
  • 1 Large (21″ x 24′) Roll of White Deco Mesh
  • 1 10″ Roll of Teal Deco Mesh
  • 1 Roll of Teal wired Craft Ribbon (for a bow)
  • 3 Wooden letters of your choosing
  • A Wooden Owl Trio (or any other accent piece of your choosing)
  • Gerber Daisies to match (I chose 3 gold, 3 blue, & 3 pink ones to match the owls)
  • Hot Glue Gun, Scissors, & Pipe Cleaners

Here is a picture of the finished wreath—I am very happy with the final result! 🙂

Deco Mesh & Birdhouse Wreath w/Video Tutorial

To say it has been hot in our neck of the woods is an understatement! It has been so hot that one of my outdoor wreaths has been losing its glued on accent pieces…<sigh>.  A couple of weeks ago, I had redecorated the Little Red Wagon (<link to video tutorial showing you how I created that decor) that sits on the front porch. In addition, I had made a new Burlap & Birdhouse  (<~~ link to video tutorial) front door wreath.  Red, cream, and khaki were some of the colors that I incorporated into the decorations.  I just happened to have a grapevine wreath already made and decided to go ahead and hang it on the front light post…welllllllll…That has ended up to ***NOT*** be one of my brighter ideas as the temperatures have soared and so has the humidity with it…that poor wreath that was held together by hot glue started to lose its accent pieces, they were literally melting off.  I knew I needed to make a new heartier wreath to hang out there asap.

So, I decided to make a Deco Mesh wreath to replace my poor, pitiful, mess of a grapevine wreath. 😉  Here are the supplies that I gathered so that I could create a new, tougher, wreath that would be able to handle the heat, humidity, and occasional thunder storm.

1V4A5674

  • 16″ Work Wreath
  • 1 Roll Large Deco Mesh (burlap color)
  • 1 Roll of Medium Deco Mesh (red and burlap color)
  • 2 Rolls of Burlap & Polka Dot ribbon
  • Red and Khaki colored daisies with clips on the back
  • 1 Wooden Birdhouse
  • Pipe Cleaners

After watching my grapevine wreath literally melt in the heat, I did not want to use any glue on this wreath, so those flowers have clips on the back and my hubby drilled holes in the back of the birdhouse and fed tie wraps though them so that I could then loop pipe cleaners through them and tie the birdhouse onto the wreath.  I show you all of that in the video, so here is a video tutorial showing you how I created my new sturdier front light post wreath:

Here is a close-up of the finished wreath:

In the end, I’m much happier with how this wreath looks out there on that light post, and now I know I’m not going to come home and find different accent pieces strewn about in my flower bed. 😉 lol All in all, it was a very productive day!

Ohhhh hang on a sec…I promised in the video that I would provide a link that explains about those lights in our windows (and all about our outdoor accent lighting).  Here is a link to my Special Outdoor Lighting Blog post, and here are a couple of pictures of our house at night:

ONE more little thing…haha…I make a sculptured bow in this video, here is a link to my “How to Make a Bow” tutorial.

Easter & Springtime Transitions

“Lazy” is not a word that is *ever* used to describe me, “procrastinator” is not either, but, this year, the thought of switching my decor around for Easter and then Springtime has evoked both of those words into my swirling brain.  My hubby and I are leaving for a Hawaiian cruise in April and well,  I’d have to decorate for Easter then tweak said decor for Springtime all before we left.  NOT interested in doing that in any way, shape, or form, not to mention the fact that I am quite enjoying the redecorating that I did after Christmas, truly, I’m loving it ‘as-is’.  SO, I will show you what I did for Easter/Springtime last year. 🙂

The first thing that I did last February was to create a new Easter wreath:

11054306_10205861410564868_3204616970637005082_nIMG_9580

I will not bore you with the details as to how I made this wreath, but if you’d like to know the basic process by which I create a burlap wreath, click here and that will take you to one of my burlap wreath entries with a bit of a tutorial included. 🙂

When I made this wreath, I wasn’t sure where it would end up, as you’ll see in this post, it made it’s way from here to there until it landed on it’s final resting place through Easter. 🙂

This is the very first place that I place it:

IMG_9585

It didn’t take me long to move it to another location, it was way too bright (for lack of a better descriptive word) for the fireplace space.  So I moved it to my dining room and I made a lantern centerpiece to match…

IMG_6595

Here is a closer look at the centerpiece…

Again, I will not bore you with all of the details as to how I put this centerpiece together, but, if you’d like to do one for yourself, click here for some more detailed instructions. I was really happy with how this turned out; so airy and whimsical, it sure brightened up that room.

Next, I moved to the family room and to the hearth and mantel…

1V4A0202

This decor lends itself to more of a country feel and I honestly didn’t remove any of my everyday accent pieces, I simply moved things around to accommodate a few bunnies (ceramic, wooden, stuffed, and muslin), an easter egg garland, and I made a bow or two to match…

1V4A01991V4A0198

DSCN0026

Next, I moved over to the kitchen table…

11091296_10206077559888466_6839792587462378512_n

I had never purchased “Spring” dishes before in my life. But, last year I found these plates at Home Goods for $5 a piece, the tablecloth for $15 (60×104), and the napkins for $5 for 8…awesome prices. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some flowers (to redo the lantern centerpiece to match the tablecloth and napkins) all of which were 50% off that week. Oh yes indeed, I made out like a bandit.  I also made the little napkin rings…easy peezy, I just tied a ribbon around the napkin and hot glued sweet little silk flowers to the tails of the bow.

1V4A0348

1V4A03381V4A03461V4A0348

After Easter, the tablecloth remained on the table for the month of April and I replaced the “Happy Easter” sign in the centerpiece with some pretty metal birdies and some wooden daisies…

1V4A0413

Okay, so the inside was tweaked for Easter and a wee bit for Springtime (although honestly, my basic decor doesn’t change all that much for Spring except for that all of the gerber daisies that I have scattered about starting at right after Christmas finally come into Season…haha). 😉  I DO love me some gerber daisies!! 😉

ANY hoot, I digress, I set my sites on the outdoors…The first thing that I did was make a pretty Spring deco mesh wreath to hang on our light post.  Again, I’ll not bore you here with the ‘how-to’ details, but if you’d like to see how I put my deco mesh wreaths together, click here… These are the materials that I gathered up for this particular deco mesh wreath:

10407351_10205861410604869_7747308601039633720_n

And here is what I created:

IMG_95751V4A0260

I also replaced the decorative flag to match that wreath.

1V4A0233

Next, I decided that I wanted to add a little Easter’y’ somethin’ somethin’ to the front porch.  So, I grabbed that wreath off of my dining room wall (replaced it with a picture) and grabbed up some crates from my basement and utilized my grandmothers milk can that is always sitting out there and created this little “cozy corner”.  (If you would like to see my basic instructions for cozy corners, click here). Here is what I came up with, that wreath had found it’s final resting place…;) …

1V4A02281V4A0231

I did this before I purchased my little red wagon.  Click there if you’d like to see my little red wagon and how I switch the decor out to match the Season. That little wagon will be an awesome tool when I go to decorate for Spring *next* year. 🙂

Last but not least, I redecorated my mailbox utilizing the same basic idea that I describe in my Seasonal Mailbox Decor post.

1V4A0215

As you can see, we didn’t have our driveway paved last Spring, that big project happened this past summer. 🙂

1V4A0236

Here is the house with the driveway paved…IMG_3570

I’m a little bit sad that I won’t be switching things out for Easter/Springtime this year, but, some years are just busier than others, and this year we have other things happening.  Thankfully, our daughter will be staying here while we are away watching the house and the pups…I’m sure they won’t mind that the decor is going to be staying in the more generic realm. 😉

A Few Outdoor Changes for Valentine’s Day

February has arrived and as often happens when a new month arrives (especially one with a spiffy Holiday included) I get inspired to do just a few little decor tweaks outside.  I typically do not redecorate the inside of my home for Valentine’s Day or St. Patty’s Day, but I do try to be a bit festive outside. As y’all know, I made two Valentine’s Day deco mesh wreaths, one in pink and white with just a touch of red and one in red and white… <~~~Those links will show you how I put both wreaths together quickly and easily. 🙂IMG_4169

IMG_4188

First, I had to decide where I wanted to place that pink and white wreath because, let’s be truthful here, it really was completely different than the red one and would not look all that wonderful paired with my other red accent pieces that I have scattered about outside. So I chose to hang it on the wagon wheels that sit out in the front yard (they camouflage our well pipe)…

IMG_4200

I feel that it sits far enough away from the house that it doesn’t compete too too much with the rest of the red decor…

IMG_4203

The sidewalk’s light post is where I chose to place the red wreath, it pairs nicely with the cardinals on the flags and the red gazing ball…

IMG_4204IMG_4206

Then I moved to the front porch…I didn’t put any Valentine’s Day accent pieces on there, but, I did change out the front door wreath for one that I had made last summer right before I started writing this Blog–therefore, I did not take pictures of the creative process when I made this wreath…my apologies.  My idea with this wreath was to create something that I could hang up anytime of the year…in other words a more generically accented wreath.

IMG_4220

Then I moved to the little red wagon that I have sitting on my porch…

IMG_4215

Here is a link to My Little Red Wagon blog post showing you all of the different ways that I utilize this one “staple” accent piece…

IMG_4217IMG_4209

I love how it looks in the evening hours too…

IMG_4223IMG_4225

If you’d like to see how we came up with the accent lighting (up lights, wash lights, walkway lights, and the lights in the windows and the story behind those), check out my Special Outdoor Lighting post.

The morning after I took these pictures, the sun was shining beautifully and I was doing some organizing and came across this cute wooden heart…I went ahead and added it to my red wagon arrangement….

IMG_4226

I also took a minute to take a picture of my sweet Brown Newf Samson. 🙂

IMG_0328

Last but not least, I did make a bow and added some sparkly hearts to it and I tied it onto our mailbox…

IMG_4192IMG_4198See that wooden heart hanging under the mailbox? That is actually meant to be hung on a little decorative pole (I had it hanging on the front porch of our other home).  I didn’t have a place that I wanted to hang the decorative pole here at this house, but, I’ve been using all of the “signs” that I collected throughout the years to augment my mailbox decor.

IMG_4199

So, now, I’m all set for the month of February, I truly don’t do too much redecorating inside of the house through the winter months so adding just a little somethin’ somethin’ to our outdoor spaces keeps me tapping on those creative juices. 🙂

Until next time, y’all take good care! ❤

Deco Mesh Valentine’s Day Wreath (Pink & White)

This past weekend we had one massive snowstorm around this area and pretty much all I’ve done for the last several days is cook everyone’s favorite dish, watch the news that is reporting on how this area is completely shut down and how it will take days to dig us out, and battle my cabin fever.  I’ve also played with my pups in the backyard, they are having a blast…I think I will write a post in the coming days so that I can show you what a good time they’ve had. 🙂 In the meantime, here are a couple of pictures…:)

IMG_3883IMG_4048

And today, I took a few minutes out to combat my cabin fever and to create a very quick Valentine’s Day wreath.  This wreath literally took me an hour (at most) to make.  It was easy peezy to put together and anyone could do it. 🙂

Here are the supplies I used:

  • 16″ Work Wreath
  • 1 Roll of 21″ x 10 yard Deco Mesh
  • 1 Bolt of Wired Ribbon
  • 4 Heart ornaments
  • 1 Wooden Plaque

IMG_4156

IMG_3668IMG_4162IMG_4159

The first thing that I did was to hot glue some pipe cleaners onto the back of the wooden plaque so that I could easily tie it onto the wreath form…

IMG_4163

Then I looped the deco mesh into the work wreath’s pipe cleaners; I worked my way around the outer ring, then the inner ring, and then I put another row around the outer ring.

IMG_4158

I made a big bow out of the ribbon…and tied it onto one side of the wreath, and then I tied the wooden plaque on the opposite side.  I hot glued the heart ornaments on and called it a day.  Honestly, easy as can be. 🙂

Here is the finished wreath:

IMG_4169

I’m not totally sure where I will hang it quite yet…It will definitely be hung outside, possibly on my light post out front…

IMG_3564

Or I might hang it on my wagon wheels…

IMG_3568

Productivity is a good thing, and today, I felt like I was definitely productive. 🙂 Go me! 😉

Until next time, y’all take good care! ❤

Quaint Deco Mesh Wreath In Teal And White

I was so touched that my oldest daughter asked me to make her another wreath this weekend, this one would be for her front door.  It was my complete pleasure and honor to create something just for her. 🙂 Teal is her very favorite color, so I went searching for accents that would pair with it nicely.  I found a roll of deco mesh in a beautiful teal color and I decided white would be the accent color and I was determined to not throw any other colors into the mix so I chose a white deco mesh, a wooden white “C”, a teal and white chevron ribbon to be used to make a bow, a few teal flowers, teal ‘scrolly’ things, and a couple of teal lacy looking butterflies.  I’m really happy with how it turned out.  Christin is tad (meaning *a lot*) more minimalistic than I am, so I tried really hard not to over do when purchasing stuff for this wreath; it goes to show you that you don’t have to use 5 thousand accent pieces to make a full and pretty wreath. 🙂

Here are pictures of the supplies that I used:

IMG_2338IMG_2348 IMG_2341 IMG_2344 IMG_2346 IMG_2347

I used a 16″ metal work wreath that I found in the Christmas section at Hobby Lobby for 50% off…

IMG_2337

Next, I made the bow, I just learned how to make a bow like this. I watched this YouTube video.  It wasn’t hard to do at all…YaY!!

IMG_2349

Then I started to attach the teal colored deco mesh by unrolling a good bit of the mesh and gathering the end of it into a tuft and catching it into a pipe cleaner, then moving around the wreath form, I gathered the mesh into 10-12″ loops and caught one in each of the outer pipe cleaners.

IMG_2350

I then transitioned to the inner ring and continued in the same looping action catching a tuft in each inner pipe cleaner…

IMG_2351

IMG_2353

After that I unrolled a good bit of the white deco mesh and started to attach it using the same technique as I described above.  I only attached the white to each outer ring and I simply added on top of the teal — I didn’t even untwist the twist ties, I just added it right on top of the teal and gave the twist tie another twist.

IMG_2354 IMG_2355

After the deco mesh was attached, I started to place the accent pieces.  I started by hot gluing pipe cleaners to the back of the “C” so that I could tie it onto the wreath form…

IMG_2356

Then I tied the bow onto the wreath, and added the flowers, scrolly things, and the butterflies.  After that, I took some of the teal and white chevron ribbon and cut it into 10″ strips.  I made 3 piles of three strips and cut pretty edges on the ribbon, then I attached them onto the wreath and spread them out to look a little bit like a snowflake…

IMG_2359 IMG_2360

IMG_2358

Christin was sitting at the kitchen island (where I was putting the wreath together) doing her lesson plans for this coming week so I was able to consult with her to make sure I was placing things where she might like them. I think that she is quite happy with the end result and when she is happy, well that makes me happy. 🙂 She will take it back to her home this evening and hang it onto her front door and it will be there to happily welcome her home each and every day from now on. 🙂

IMG_2370

Until next time, y’all take good care! ❤

OH by the way, here is the link to the Whimsical Burlap Wreath that I made for Christin last weekend.  🙂

Deco Mesh Christmas Wreath (Red & White Striped & Snowman)

Deco mesh has become one of my favorite things with which to make my outdoor wreaths.  It holds its shape and handles rainy or snowy days beautifully. 🙂  I have been making wreaths for my front light post as the seasons pass since last winter, so I decided to go ahead and get my Christmas wreath made today.  Honest to goodness, I wish I could find my “off switch” sometimes, I truly am like the energizer bunny and I am rarely idle. I shouldn’t complain huh? I should be very grateful that I can still put my feet on the floor in the morning and go through my day with an exorbitant amount of energy. 😉 🙂

So, here we go…I used a 16″ “work wreath” which only means that it is a metal form with chenille twist ties already attached.  I actually was able to find one with red twist ties on sale at Hobby Lobby in the Christmas department.

IMG_2135

I was able to do this entire wreath with one roll of deco mesh:

IMG_2137

I started this wreath by unrolling a good bit of the deco mesh and start attaching it to the outer ring of the work wreath.  I then started to make loops using about 10″ of mesh for each loop.  I followed that pattern all the way around the outer ring and then transferred to the inner ring and did the same thing until I had filled all of the twist ties…

IMG_2140IMG_2141

IMG_2142

Now to add a few extra adornments to the wreath, I took some 5″ deco mesh ribbon in the same pattern that I used for the wreath and I cut 4- 12″ strips, and I did the same thing with some red and white striped wired ribbon.

IMG_2149 IMG_2146 IMG_2147 IMG_2148

Then I made a little pile consisting of one piece of the cut deco mesh, one piece of the red and white ribbon, and I added a white “snowflake” pick and bundled them all together and placed them into one of the twist ties on the wreath.  I did that 3 more times strategically placing the 4 tufts around the wreath.

IMG_2150

A bow was next, I made it out of the same 5″ deco mesh and red and white ribbon that I had used for the little tufts.  Here is a link to my “How to make a bow tutorial” (video)…

IMG_2151 IMG_2152

I found a “Merry Christmas” worded sign with glittery white lettering, I was able to tie that into the twist ties; I did glue it in a couple of places as well…

IMG_2138

Next, it was time to place a few snowmen and candy Christmas ornaments; I hot glued them into place and called it done.

IMG_2136

When it is time to decorate for Christmas, this wreath will replace my Fall wreath on the light post…

IMG_2160

Or possibly, it will replace the spray on the wagon wheels…

IMG_2163

IMG_2154 (1)

I’m extremely happy with how this wreath turned out and *bonus* it only took me 45 minutes to make from start to finish; I hope that this will inspire someone out there to try one for themselves.  You can do it!

Until next time, y’all take good care! ❤
