2018 Happy Fall Y’all!

Hi Everyone! I have been busily about in the last month and have now finished decorating our home for Fall. In this post, I will show you many pictures of each space that I have decorated. At the end of the post, I will give you a link to my YouTube “2018 It’s Fall Y’all” Playlist in which I share many tutorials of me literally creating many of the crafts, cozy corners, not to mention nooks and crannies abounding that you will see in the following pictures. The very last video in the Playlist is my 2018 Fall Home Tour in which I walk you through our home and explain every little thing and then set it all to music as I travel around the house in the evening hours while all of the soft lights glimmer and glow. 🙂  Here we go!

All of those pictures covered the rooms that span the back of our home…Now let me show you how I lightened up the pallet and give a little nod (with a pop of color) to the Farmhouse. 🙂

Happy Fall Y’all 2017!

Hi Everyone!!  It has been such a busy time around our home as of late! As most of you know, Chris and I just returned from our back to back Voyage of the Glaciers cruises in Alaska with Princess.  I’ve been diligently working on my blog series for that trip, sharing with you a time that I have already tucked safely away in my heart and mind, I’ll be able to conjure up those memories any time I need to be transported to one of the most gorgeous places on the planet.  If you haven’t happened to see my blog posts about our trip up to this point, here is a link that holds all of the links to the blogs that I’ve written so far (check back often, I have a long way to go to finish that series):

Back to Back Voyage of the Glacier Cruises Blog Series

Before we departed for our trip, I was diligently working on getting my Fall Decor up and in place; I worked very hard for the couple of weeks before we left.  And I was successful…whew…I managed to get all of the indoor spaces completely finished!  That said, I not only got my decor into place, I also created YouTube Videos of every craft and space that I created. First, let me share some pictures with you of our home decorated up for Fall, then, I will give you a link to my YouTube Channel’s “Arlynn’s Country Craft Corner” 2017 Fall Home Tour Playlist that holds 20, yes, count them *20* videos of me bringing my creations to life such as Cozy Corners, wreaths, lantern centerpieces, lantern swags, etc…To say I worked hard, well, that is an understatement…haha. 😉 BUT, of course I thrive on my crafting and decorating, so it was definitely a labor of love!! 🙂 So here we go with some pictures:

Okie dokie, here are some pictures of the Family Room…IMG_7558IMG_7559IMG_7551IMG_7552IMG_7554IMG_7585IMG_7601IMG_7621IMG_7618IMG_7610

And here are some more shots of how I decorated up the rest of the back side of the house, moving through the family room, into the kitchen, over to the kitchen eating area, the kitchen hutch and desk, and the powder room.

1V4A9414

Okie dokie…That did it for the back of the house. I was very happy with how everything turned out!! I utilized a lot of my old decor and mixed it in with some of the new things that I had purchased and crafted.  I had a huge feeling of accomplishment, but, I wasn’t done yet! It was time to soldier on and move into the rooms that sit on the front of our home and in which I prefer a lighter, softer, and calmer color palette.  Instead of utilizing the the more traditional, bolder, oranges, reds, greens, and yellows like what we’ve just seen, I’d be utilizing soft silvers, creams, grays, blues, & khakis in the living and dining room as well as in the foyer that sits between the two rooms.  Let me show you some pictures:

1V4A94531V4A94541V4A94551V4A94661V4A94671V4A95491V4A94851V4A95941V4A95821V4A95811V4A94841V4A94761V4A9485

1V4A9600.JPG1V4A9576As I mentioned above, I did all of the decorating that you see in these pictures prior to leaving for our cruise, and when we returned home, I went ahead and finished the outdoor spaces.  Here is was I completed just last week:

IMG_8555IMG_8546IMG_8556IMG_8558IMG_8558 2IMG_7247IMG_7240IMG_7248IMG_8746IMG_8748IMG_8745IMG_8530IMG_8563IMG_8527

And that finished up my Fall decorating for 2017!  I am so happy that I took that 2 weeks before we left on our cruise to get the entire inside of the house finished.  I had forgotten just how much work it is to switch everything out and recreate the wheel for the next Season. BUT, that said, I’m super happy with how everything looks now and I’m even happier that I was able to create an entire Playlist of me showing y’all *in person* how I brought it all to fruition.  Actually, do y’all know what? It was Chris’ idea for me to start at the very beginning of my process, my first video begins with me in our basement showing where and how I store all of the Seasonal decor.  I literally take you through my entire process in that Playlist of videos…so, without further adieu, here is a link that will take you through my process, as I said, it is 20 videos strong:

2017 Arlynn’s Country Craft Corner YouTube Fall Decor Series

And did you see that massively HUGE wreath on my front door? This one:

IMG_7248

I actually made this one before I started to decorate in earnest, here is a link that will show you how I put it together:

Big Bold Fall Wreath

OH wait, there is one more wreath that I pictured above that is not included in the Fall Playlist, this one:

Here is a link to this my…

Fall Fabric Mesh & Owl Wreath

OHHHHHH wait!!! There is ONE more wreath that I created that is not included in that Fall Playlist, this one (as I said, I’ve been b-u-s-y over here…lol):

And that my friends is, as they say, *that*. 🙂 U-n-t-i-l I start decorating for Christmas in a few weeks….ahhhhhhhh….HELP! LOL 😉 JUST Kidding, y’all know I will love doing it once I get started!!  So for now, because I worked so hard before we left for Alaska, I will be able to sit back and write my Alaska Cruise Blog Series until it is time to switch everything out for the most wonderful time of the year *Christmas*!!

The Rest Of My Indoor Easter/Spring Decorations (w/links to my YouTube videos included–tutorials & a home tour)

Life throws us curves at times doesn’t it?  Please accept my sincere apologies for not getting this blog post written a little sooner, although if truth be told, I just finished my indoor Easter/Spring decorations the other day.  But, I needed to push the pause button with my decorating and my blogging/vlogging–My sweet Aunt Midge passed away last week, and I needed a little bit of time to mourn, reflect, and to go and spend a little bit of time with my family.  Crazy things like what I’m about to tell you happen to me all of the time, and I don’t know if it is a good or a bad thing, but, it is a *thing*.  Chris and I had scheduled a visit up to “God’s Country” as we call it because I had commissioned a lady to make me a sign like this:IMG_4475

I saw that one of my cousin’s had gotten one, then another one got one, so I wanted one too, and I got one for my cousin Stacey (who y’all have met here on my site), and then my cousin Donita and I split the cost of one and we gave it to our Aunt Barb (Stacey’s Mom).  SO that means that most of us here in my family have one of these precious signs now.  It contains all of the old hymns that we sang as a family when I was growing up, and to this day, every time we’re together, we sing these hymns. I cannot tell you how special this is to me.  ANYway, that’s the backstory of the sign, but, what I wanted to tell y’all was that my Aunt Midge who was in a nursing home up there in God’s Country happened to take a turn for the worse on the day that we were traveling to collect our signs. Bless her heart, it was so special for us to be able to go up and visit with her for that day—she passed away the next evening and her funeral (really a celebration of her amazing life, she touched so many with her sweet ways, knowledge of the Bible, her piano playing, and much, much more) was last week.  When my Mom was dying, I happened to be shopping across town and got a feeling of dread and I literally hopped in my car and drove the 100+ miles to my Mom’s nursing home–I walked in and my Dad asked…”How did you know? I was just getting ready to call you”…Whew…cold chills when up my spine and I was very grateful that I had listened to that little inner voice that told me to GO.  SO, anyway, I ramble…But, I wanted y’all know where I’ve been and why it has taken me a bit of time to stop, sit, and write a blog about the rest of my Easter/Spring decor. 🙂  Here is where that sign went to live in our home–We added that scroll’y’ piece over it and the clock to the left of it to try to pull all of the decor together.

So onward we soldier folks…Okie dokie, when last I wrote, I do believe I left off at the fireplace. This sweet little arrangement is what I created next.  It sits on a table that is between our family room and kitchen.  I found that sweet little bunny at a country store we have in our town…I’ll post a video where I give a little tour of that store and where I show you how I created that centerpiece. 🙂

IMG_4469

I did add a few things to the kitchen windows:

IMG_4507.jpg

Next I moved into the dining room where I created this lantern centerpiece, switched out my tablecloth, and added a pretty Springy table runner:

IMG_4527IMG_4528

Here is my YouTube video where I show you how I put together this dining room table:

And just the other day to finish my indoor decorations, I added a few little things to the living room to bring Spring and Easter into that space. 🙂  Of course I did make a video of that too and I will post a link below the pictures.

Here are a couple of shots of the family room and then the living and dining rooms:

And here is my YouTube video where I show you how I finished up the living room, and then after that I’ll share a “Car Chit-Chat” video that has a home tour of everything that I did for Easter/Spring after the Chat. 🙂

Next, I’ll be moving outside and decorating out there for Easter. 🙂

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like…Easter! (w/Links to my YouTube tutorials included)

Do y’all know what I realized this year?  I had only decorated this our new house once for Easter.  What?!  That hardly seemed possible, after all, I live to decorate for every little thing. 😉  But, nope, I had only decorated once, so I’ve gone on a mission this year, I’m trying to add a little bit of the Easter/Spring feel into our home.  This has proven to be a bit of a challenge for me in our family room area because my usual decor lends itself to the more traditional country colors of burgundies, reds, dark greens, tans, khakis, and so on.  In that one year that I had decorated, I had purchased a few things, and had only done the fireplace hearth, but, this year, I’ve been on a mission to find more decor accents that I can incorporate into our home to bring in the light and airy feeling of Easter and Spring.  Well, little did I know when I found an egg garland in Hobby Lobby one day that I would base my entire design around that–at first I thought that garland was a little over the top with its gold tipped eggs of all pastel colors of the rainbow, but, I’ve really embraced it for my family room, and as you’ll see, I’ve incorporated it into every little venue and centerpiece.

This year, my plan is to only decorate “here and there” for Easter/Spring…WISH me luck please!!  I’m trying really hard not to re-create the entire wheel (so to speak) like I do for Fall and then for Christmas–As much as I love the creating and decorating process, I do not love the pulling out of Seasonal bins and then un-decorating and storing all of my decor. I’m trying to keep some of my existing decor in place and augment with my Easter accents so I don’t go through the *pulling out of hair and gnashing of teeth* part of the redecorating journey.  I’ve been somewhat successful, but, admittedly, I have done a bit of recreating of that wheel…haha.  Although, I do think I’ll only be left with one bin of things that I’ve removed to make room for the Easter/Spring accents and therefore will only have 1 or 2 Easter/Spring bins versus the 8,9, & 10 (not exaggerating) bins I have for Fall and then Christmas.

All that said, I will show you what I’ve completed so far in the family room, and I will not be expanding my efforts too much further, meaning, I will not be removing any more decor in this area of the house.  I have switched out my kitchen table’s tablecloth and redone that lantern centerpiece though, I’ll show you pictures of that below.  From now on, in this portion of the house, I’ll just be adding an accent piece here or there to continue the theme throughout the kitchen and possibly powder room. 🙂  (I’ll put links to the YouTube Videos that I’ve created during this process below).

Here is the “Cozy Corner” that sits beside the tv credenza, admittedly, I did remove all of the decor and created this new design; there’s that new bling’y’ egg garland, and I wrapped it in pastel colored lights–OH gracious, did that ever make it pretty!

IMG_4426.jpg

I switched out the table runner, added a couple of bunnies, and made a new centerpiece for the top of the credenza:IMG_4462.JPG

There’s a bit more of the egg garland peeking out of the centerpiece:

IMG_4455.jpg

Here is the mantel, and instead of removing the pip berry lit (with white lights) garland, I simply wrapped another egg garland in those pastel lights and added it right on top of the pip berry garland…wow, I didn’t know if that would work out, but, I LOVE it…Other than the garland, I simply replaced the candles, made a couple of bows and added them to either side of the garland, and added a couple of ceramic bunnies on either side of the clock.  I can’t tell you how happy I am with this mantel…so light, so airy, so, so pretty–if I do say so myself…lol…nothing like patting one’s self on the back a bit huh?  haha

IMG_4454.jpg

And here is the hearth–I made a new lantern centerpiece, and admittedly removed a good bit of the more traditional decor…this is the focal point in the room, I needed to really work with it and lighten it up in feel and design in order to bring everything together. I also redid the “cozy corner” basket design I have sitting right next to the credenza.

IMG_4458.jpgIMG_4457.jpgIMG_4453.jpgIMG_4452.jpgIMG_4451-1.JPG

Here is the kitchen table–I had purchased the tablecloth last year, and I had some of the lantern centerpiece’s accent pieces, but, I did add a few more things to it this year…like…some of that egg garland, I’m nothing if not consistent. 😉  I also found a lovely golden butterfly light strand here at Victoria Trading Company.

IMG_0983.jpg

IMG_0980.jpg

I fell in love with those sweet little “praying” bunnies that I used to anchor the corners of this centerpiece. 🙂 ❤

Okie dokie…That about does it for what I’ve completed so far…I do have a table runner to add to the Island, and I might redo the centerpiece that I have sitting up there, and I plan to do a little something with that table that sits between the family room and kitchen…and then maybe add one or two things to the Powder room…maybe..haha. 🙂  I will then move into the living and dining rooms, I do have supplies to redo the dining room table’s lantern centerpiece, but that is about it for in there…we’ll see if I’m satisfied with that. 🙂

I’m pretty proud of myself that I’ve been able to step outside of my box and expand my decorating into the pastel arena—I’m quite happy with the results so far. 🙂

Here are a couple of links to my YouTube channel.  I’ve been making tutorial videos (along with a car Chit-Chat too), as I’ve been working my way through this process. 🙂

Christmas Switch-Out: Living & Dining Rooms, Outdoor Decor, and *Bonus* Snow Doggies

Ding, ding, ding!! 😉 I am finally finished with all of my redecorating tasks for this Christmas Season, whew, that was a bit of a marathon this year.  Well, if truth be told, it is every year, but the good thing about the passage of time is that it helps one to forget the difficult parts of tasks and only remember the good feeling that one gets when said tasks are completed. So as I do every year, I had approached this year’s redecorating with the same fervor that I do every year. 🙂

I will give you links to my two YouTube videos where I show and tell you how I completed all of the decorating and in addition, I provide a few tutorials–two lantern centerpieces and one of a centerpiece around my Grandma’s lamp in the dining room.  Here are a few pictures of what is featured in the first video link…”Episode #4″:

Here are a few pictures of the second link I will provide for you below.  In this I will show you how I decorated the outdoor spaces (in the freezing cold weather…gracious I was shivering while trying to talk…haha).

All righty…Here are those two links—**Stay tuned though** as I will also share some pictures of the pups in the little snowstorm that we got the other day as well as show you a little video of them romping around a bit. 🙂

We got about 3 inches of snow the other day, and our 3 pups had a great time playing around in it–and are still having fun going outside and just plopping down in it.  The temperatures have been so cold that the snow is still laying pretty much where it fell.

img_3540img_3529

They had a blast playing out there, we didn’t get too much snow, but, it was enough to provide some entertainment and a couple of good romps for all three of them–Sophie and Gracie are both 9 years old now, they acted like they were 9 months old…haha…Here is a little video show you the sheer joy a few snowflakes can provide:

All righty, I’ll close out this little post, I have another thing to share with you in the coming days, I made a new cream burlap Valentine’s Day wreath to hang out on our front door and will provide you with the tutorial in my next post. 🙂  Here is a sneak peek at the final product…

IMG_3557.jpg

I hope y’all are staying dry and warm, the temperature on my computer says that it is a whopping 8 degrees outside at the moment (very cold for these parts).  Temps are supposed to rise later this week, but, for now…brrrrrrrr…I think I’ll go and cuddle up with one of the Newfs and get me a nice hot cup of tea. 🙂

Until next time, y’all take good care!

Christmas Switch-Out 2016–Family Room, Kitchen, Kitchen Eating Area, & Powder Room

Oh my goodness gracious y’all, I’m so tired!  <~~~ I’m only half kidding…lol… I have been diligently working on getting our house put back to its “normal” self.  Before I lament further, I’d like to wish each and every one of you a VERY Happy New Year!!  I wish nothing but happiness, great health, and whatever else your hearts desire to come to you in this nice, fresh, new year. 🙂 AND let me take a moment to thank each and every one of you for taking time out of your day to read my ramblings and look at all of my pictures. 🙂  It seems that my little Blog here is doing pretty well, and that is due to all of you out there who have stopped by to join me on my crafting and traveling journeys. 🙂  I am humbled by each and every “like” and sweet comment—thank you all from the very bottom of my heart. ❤

All right, back to the subject at hand,  Chris and I started this marathon process a few days after Christmas when we took both Christmas trees down. Since then,  I’ve been working each and every day, whittling away at each little space i.e. the fireplace mantel and hearth, table tops, cozy corners, lantern centerpieces, and beyond.  All along the way, I’ve also been creating YouTube videos, actually, I’ve created a new “Series” entitled “Christmas Switch-Out”.  So far, I’ve created 3 videos showing y’all my ‘switch-out’ process and then sharing how I redecorate in a more generic way.   I do not decorate for “Winter”, instead I redecorate using regular country decor that I can augment with Holiday/Seasonal decor, i.e. maybe a heart or two for Valentine’s Day, a Shamrock or two for St. Patty’s Day, possibly some Bunnies for Easter, well, you get my drift.

I have finished the rooms in the back portion of our home and those rooms include the family room, the kitchen, the kitchen eating area, and the powder room.  Below, I will post link to my first three videos in my YouTube series for y’all…but, first, here are some pictures of some of the spaces and things that I’ve created in the last week or so. 🙂

Okie dokie…As you can see, I’ve been quite busy–and so has Chris, poor soul has been carrying my bins back downstairs and getting everything organized down there.  He is such a trooper!! 🙂  Here are 3 links, Episodes 1, 2, & 3 in my new YouTube Series:

I still have two more videos to create, one will highlight the living and dining rooms and the second one will highlight what I’ve done outside.  🙂

Christmas 2016: Soft & Pretty Lantern Centerpieces

I am diligently working on decorating my living and dining rooms for Christmas and am almost finished, the only thing that I have left to do is to put the white Christmas tree up (and I *might* have a thought in my head to make a new burlap wreath for between the windows in the dining room—that thought has not fully developed yet though…haha). 😉  In this little post, I want to share a few arrangements that I’ve made for these rooms, one large lantern centerpiece for the dining room table, one arrangement that I made to go around a lamp on my sideboard and then one smaller lantern centerpiece for the living room.  As y’all know, I always try to incorporate softer color tones into these more formal, yet country looking rooms.  So you’ll see a lot of light greens, blues, silvers, and whites…so soft and pretty.  I have made a YouTube tutorial video to show y’all how I put these three beauties together and I’ll post that link below.  First though, here are some pictures:

This is lantern centerpiece that I made for the dining room table:

IMG_0766.jpg

The arrangement that I made to go around Mooney’s (my Grandma) lamp on the sideboard:

And a picture of both arrangements:

And last but not least, a picture of the small lantern centerpiece that sits on the small living room table:

Sophie was helping me too… ;):

IMG_2639.jpg

And here is a link to my YouTube tutorial:

I’m so glad that I have climbed out of my “traditional red, burgundy, gold, Christmas box” for these rooms as I really do enjoy the lighter, airier, and softer tones that I’ve incorporated.  I hope upon hope that I have given one or two of you a new and different idea for your own Christmas decorating. 🙂

Until next time, y’all take good care! ❤

Fall Lantern Centerpieces & More

Hi Everyone! Now that I’m back from my Canada & New England Cruise and have completed my Blog series of our awesome time aboard the Regal Princess and beyond, I’ve gotten back to my crafting.  I’ve had many people comment on my Lantern Centerpieces, so I took some time out today to deconstruct and then reconstruct three of the centerpieces that I had created for this Fall’s decorations.  I’ve made a video and will give you a link *below* to it on my new YouTube Channel “Arlynn’s Country Craft Corner“. 🙂  <~~That’s a link to my main YouTube Channel’s page…I’ll give you link for the specific video I created today below in this short post. 🙂

I will let my video show you everything that I did, but, here are the three centerpieces that I highlighted in the video and then at the end of the video I give a little house tour to show what other centerpieces I’ve created for my Fall decor. 🙂

All right, here is a link to my YouTube video, I hope y’all enjoy it and think about giving a lantern (or other) centerpiece a try.   BTW, it is almost time for me to take all of my Fall stuff down, I’ll be starting to decorate for Christmas very soon–So I know I’ll be deconstructing these Fall centerpieces again and reconstructing them for Christmas…YaY!!

Happy Fall Y’all 2016 Series: Family Room Fireplace/Mantel & more–Video Included

Happy Fall Y’all!! Yeah, I know, it’s not quite Fall *yet*, BUT, it is September, so that is close enough for me. 😉  I love Fall decor, the warm and cozy feeling that comes with this sweet decor is something that I so enjoy creating each and every Autumn. 🙂  This year is no different, although, now-a-days, in our new home, it takes me a bit longer to get everything accomplished. 🙂 I always start with the fireplace hearth and mantel, and this year was no different.  I was so excited get started too because I had broken down and purchased a gorgeous new mantel swag and candle rings from Grandin Road–They are so pretty and wow, do they ever make a huge statement!  I LOVE the final look. I also purchased 3 new black candle sticks (only because they come in a set of 3–and I already owned 3 but needed more to accommodate those lovely candle rings)… Here is a link for those candle stick holders.

I created a little video to go along with this post…And will more videos as I work my way around the house in my decorating frenzy…Here are some pictures of what I highlight in the video:

As I tell y’all in the video that I always replace most of my generic decorations with my Seasonal decor.  I do leave some of the “staple pieces” (for lack of better descriptive words) in place…like the Dickens houses and the clock on the mantel, and the ladders w/pip berries and just a few other items on the hearth.  So basically, I truly do recreate the wheel for Fall and then for Christmas.  And this year, I had to go out and purchase a couple extra bins to accommodate the generic decor that I remove I won’t use again until January–All of the Fall decor will be replaced by Christmas decor and that will stay up till the end of December. 🙂  It took me quite a few years to collect all of this decor for both Seasons; I’ve done it a little bit at a time.

Here is the fireplace completely changed over to Fall. Whew, I was bushed after doing just this…No, it’s not hard physical work, but, I use a lot of whatever brain power I have left to create this look…haha. 😉  JUST kidding, y’all know that I LOVE this sort of thing…I honestly do thrive on the creative process.

Another one of my staple pieces that stays in place and that I use as a base for my Seasonal decor is this large Longaberger basket.  Here is how I decorated it up for Fall this year:

And the last thing that I highlight in the video is the staircase–I made all new plaid bows for the swag points this year as well as a new “spray” for the bullnose.  I also added a little fall wreath to the bullnose…I had written a blog about that little grapevine wreath showing you many different ways in which it could be used…Here is a link to my blog post highlighting that little wreath:  “Not Just a Fall Grapevine Wreath”.

As you’ll see in the video, I did trim down those crazy bow tails…hahaIMG_0041

Here is the top of the Credenza that sits under the tv; I did create the centerpiece:

One last thing, I mention in my video are some quilted Fall placemats that I utilize on the family room end tables, and then they also sell a runner that I purchased, one for the kitchen’s Island and one for one other table.  I purchased them last year, but, here is a link for a set of four quilted placemats–UNfortunately, they are not available at this moment in time but, if you check back, they might come available later in the Season.

ANYway, I plan on trying to finish the rest of the back portion of the house today and I will do a walk-thru video of everything in this part of the house. And then I’ll transition into the living and dining rooms and use some of that pretty green color to create the Fall decor  in those rooms.  For now, here is a video of what I’ve created up to this point. 🙂

Pick A Theme & Carry It From Room To Room

I’ve spent a ton of time here in my Blog showing you how I transition from one Season/Holiday to the next via my decor.  But, I have not shown you how I came up with my generic/every-day decor and how I made it work through-out our home.  When we were building our new retirement home…

IMG_4512

I spent the months that it was being built trying like heck to figure out how I was going to decorate.  In my other home, I admittedly went a smidge overboard with my decor–in other words, I filled every single wall/corner/shelf that was blank and available.  Don’t get me wrong, I think I did a good job, I just think I didn’t need to do quite as much…less is more and all of that you know?! 😉  SO, I knew that I loved “country” decor, but not the primitive everything looks really old kind of country–I do love that look too, but, I didn’t think it would be appropriate for this home.  Okay, so I was getting frustrated trying to hone in on exactly where to start, after all, I was going to have to recreate the wheel so to speak–start from scratch–pull my hair out and…well you get my drift.  One day, I finally sat myself down and listed the things that I love and things that I’d used throughout my many years of decorating that always turned out nicely.  My list included:

  • Pip berries (garlands and picks),
  • Lanterns
  • Gerber daisies
  • Fleur-de-lis
  • Baskets
  • Willow Tree Figurines
  • Dickens Houses
  • Wooden Plates
  • Mini-lights

That was rather an eclectic little list I had going, but, as you’ll see, my “theme” became all of those things rolled into one cohesive design that has worked out beautifully in this home.  I will highlight the back part of our home in this entry where I’ve used burgundy, khaki, & cream as my major color scheme.  The staircase separates the family room/kitchen/eating area from the living and dining rooms that sit on the front of our home.   I’ll do a separate post describing those rooms at another time; I use khakis and creams in there as well, but my main accent color in those rooms is a soft green.

Instead of explaining each and every  decor element, I think I will just show you some pictures and give you links to my blog entries that will show you how I put certain things together.

Let’s start out with the kitchen, as you can see by the pictures below, I incorporated lanterns, baskets, wooden plates, and dickens houses among other things to create the Above The Kitchen Cabinet Decor

IMG_7558IMG_7559

I love to work with those kitchen windows; I’ve incorporated wooden plates, gerber daisies (wooden and silk), pip berry picks…Here is my The Ever Changing Kitchen Window Decor post:

Moving on into the family room area, our staircase is such a focal point, and my daughter actually gave me the idea to hang pip berry garland wrapped in white lights onto the railing.  Talk about warming up a large space, adding that lit garland and then making bows to go at the swag points has become one of my favorite design elements in the house (we do switch it out for Christmas with pine garland); the entire idea started by me using burlap and swagging it onto the staircase).  Here is a link describing all of the different ways in which I’ve switched up the Staircase Railing…My most recent design is pictured below…

I made all of those bows, and then I made a swag our of pip berry picks and gerber daisies to attach to the bullnose…IMG_3417IMG_3365

Version 2

The fireplace is another focal point; I typically decorate the mantel and hearth.  I have utilized, a pip berry garland, dickens houses, willow tree figurines, wooden plates, and a few other accent pieces to pull it all together.

I made the wreath that is hanging on the mirror above the mantel…If you’d like to try one for yourself, here is a link as to how I created it…

Creating Cozy Corners is another little design trick that I’ve honed over the years…I implemented my little trick on either side of the hearth as shown above, and also in the corners on either side of the credenza as shown below…

IMG_3358

IMG_3403 (1)As seen in the picture above, I have found that adding Rod-Iron Scroll’y’ Pieces and Accent Lighting to my space helps to pull everything together nicely…

IMG_3406

Lanterns are some of my most favorite things with which to work…I use them to create table centerpieces and have them scattered about throughout our home…

IMG_3429IMG_3430IMG_3361

I found that flour-de-lis candle holder in Hobby Lobby and I used it much like I do my lanterns…IMG_3394

Here is the Powder room, I have tried to decorate it in much the same way as I did the kitchen and family room areas as it is close by.  I just made this wreath right after Christmas, I tried to pull in all elements of my decor, i.e. gerber daisies, rod-iron (owls), pip berries (I used a pip berry garland)…OH goodness, why don’t I just give you a link, here is how I made that Burlap, Pip Berry, & Rod-Iron Wreath. 🙂

Lastly, one other way that I pull all of my decor together is my incorporating some of the same accent elements into my little flower arrangements, for this decor theme, I’ve used pip berries, gerber daisies, and that same burlap ribbon that I used to make the staircase bows.

I made these little arrangements for the kitchen window decor:

IMG_1123IMG_1124

I made this basket arrangement to sit up on a shelf in the family room:

IMG_1125IMG_1126

And one more, I made this arrangement to sit on a table in the family room:

IMG_1101-1

My goal is to always create a warm, cozy, & welcoming space and I think I’ve accomplished that goal nicely–I sure stressed for a long time while trying to pull it all together in my head though.  It wasn’t until I got moved into this home and started to work with the different spaces that it finally all came together into one cohesive design.  I hope that I’ve helped to maybe give you an idea of how to incorporate your favorite things into your home decor and in turn how to make one cohesive design–You can do it, all you need to do is to start compiling a list of the things that you love. 🙂

Until next time, y’all take good care! ❤
